What are the different types of muscle pain? A Chiropractor explains.
What are the different types of muscle pain? It’s a question that many people who experience muscle aches and pains often ask. Muscle pain, usually very closely associated with musculoskeletal pain, can arise from various factors such as strain, overuse, injury, or underlying medical conditions. In this article, we’ll delve into the causes, symptoms, types, management, and prevention of muscle pain from a chiropractor’s perspective.
The Causes of Muscle Pain
Common Causes of Muscle Pain
Muscle pain can be a result of common factors such as overuse, injury, or physical activity. Overexertion during exercise or daily activities can lead to muscle strain, which causes pain and discomfort. Additionally, sudden movements or accidents can result in muscle sprains or strains, contributing to muscle pain symptoms.
Possible Causes of Muscle Pain
What are the different types of muscle pain? This query often arises among individuals grappling with muscle aches and pains. Muscle pain, usually closely tied to musculoskeletal pain, can stem from numerous factors such as strain, overuse, injury, or underlying medical conditions. In this article, we’ll explore the causes, symptoms, types, management, and prevention of muscle pain, from the perspective of experts at Healing Hands Chiropractic – providers of one of the most thorough measurement-based chiropractic assessments in the UK today.
The Causes of Muscle Pain
Common Causes of Muscle Pain
Muscle pain often results from common factors such as overuse, injury, or physical activity. Overexertion during exercise or daily activities can lead to muscle strain, causing discomfort. Moreover, sudden movements or accidents can result in muscle sprains or strains, contributing to the symptoms of muscle pain.
The detailed, measurement-based Chiropractic Assessments at Healing Hands, including the advanced EMG Spinal Muscle Scan and Nerve Function Scan, enable us to identify abnormalities in muscle and nerve function. These may indicate overexertion, strain, or sprain, assisting us in diagnosing the cause of muscle pain.
Possible Causes of Muscle Pain
Other potential causes of muscle pain include underlying medical conditions such as fibromyalgia, myalgia, and swelling of the muscle tissue. These conditions can manifest as chronic pain, muscle weakness, and persistent muscle soreness, negatively affecting an individual’s quality of life.
Healing Hands’ thorough chiropractic assessments help identify these underlying conditions, ensuring a clear root cause diagnosis. Our approach provides the foundation for safe and effective care tailored to your specific needs.
Signs and Symptoms of Muscle Pain
Signs and symptoms of muscle pain can range from mild discomfort to severe, debilitating pain. Common symptoms include muscle spasms, cramps, limited range of motion, muscle tenderness, and stiffness, all of which can significantly disrupt daily life.
At Healing Hands Chiropractic, we believe in delivering measurable results. Our measurement-based approach allows us to track your progress over time, providing tangible evidence of your improvement and enabling us to adjust the treatment plan when necessary. Our goal is not just to treat your muscle pain, but also to improve your overall health.
Types of Muscle Pain: A Healing Hands Chiropractic Perspective
Exploring Different Types of Muscle Pain
Muscle pain manifests in various forms, each with its unique characteristics and underlying causes. Common types such as muscle strains, tendon injuries, and muscle spasms can affect different areas of the body, each presenting distinct challenges when it comes to diagnosis and treatment. At Healing Hands Chiropractic, our thorough measurement-based assessment is designed to correctly identify these types and the specific issues behind your discomfort.
Fibromyalgia: A Chronic Cause of Muscle Pain
Fibromyalgia (Fibro), a chronic condition characterised by extensive musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tender points across the body, can lead to continuous muscle pain. This condition often comes with sleep disturbances and emotional distress, pointing out the multifaceted nature of muscle pain.
Our comprehensive assessment at Healing Hands Chiropractic is designed to identify conditions like fibromyalgia. By unearthing the root cause of your discomfort, we can provide more targeted, effective care, addressing not just your physical symptoms but also the wider impact on your life.
The Role of Inflammation in Muscle Pain
Swelling plays a pivotal role in the onset and exacerbation of muscular pain. Inflammatory processes within the muscle tissue can lead to pain, swelling, and reduced mobility. This underscores the importance of addressing swelling in the management of muscle based pain.
At Healing Hands Chiropractic, our approach goes beyond treating symptoms. We aim to address underlying causes like inflammation, ensuring our care is safe, effective, and delivers measurable results. Through our comprehensive, measurement-based assessments, we can provide a clear root cause diagnosis which forms the foundation of our personalised treatment plans. Our goal is to improve not just your muscular pain but your overall health and well-being.

“I have got at this point full mobility, neck pain has been reduced by at least 90%, my posture has made a massive improvement allowing me to feel more relaxed, tension in muscles has been reduced dramatically and the uncomfortable pins and needles are now reduced by 70%”
“I decided to visit a chiropractor due to a persistent radiculopathy in my right upper limb and degenerative cervical disc protrusion. Both issues had been treated with several pain killers in the past years with no success of any sort. At this practice I was greeted by a wonderful team attentive to detail and caring. I started my path to recovery in the hands of Dr Chintan, a very professional person who made me feel confident these issues will get defenetly better. He carefully designed a 3 phases program and I am now half way through it. I must say that from being at zero mobility on my right arm and suffering with acute pain , I have got at this point full mobility, neck pain has been reduced by at least 90%, my posture has made a massive improvement allowing me to feel more relaxed, tension in muscles has been reduced dramatically and the uncomfortable pins and needles are now reduced by 70%. I can’t thank Dr Chintan and the team enough, for being so caring, dedicated and honest. I would definitely highly recommend this practice. Thank you Dr Chintan, this has saved me.”
“My sleep has improved, and my energy levels are up too”
“As I use to do dancing very extensively in my childhood working in a catering had agitated some of my old injuries. I had no energy, breathlessness, frequent headaches, and I had a very painful pinch in my hip that did not allow me to go on long walks and standing still was very taxing and painful. I have had different types of check-ups done, ultrasound, CT, multiple lateral flow tests, they also gave me an inhaler for the breathlessness, but I had no improvement and the tests showed nothing. As I live nearby, I decided to try the chiropractic. There are multiple unbelievable reviews that made me a bit unsure. However, all my doubts were flung out the window. The check up with Dr Chintan that I had was unbelievable. The doctor took x-rays, different scans and posture analysis. He extensively explained and showed me about the shift in my lower back that was causing the issue in my hip. The weight imbalance was astonishing. My headaches and breathlessness were coming from my neck. I had completely lost the curve in my neck and that was straining my muscles and messing up my posture. With the first adjustment I felt the weight come off my chest, my breathing was getting easier. Because he did the extensive check-up, he could do the adjustment clearly, and precisely. Dr Chintan also gave me some exercises that I need to myself. The change as not been immediate, but I could feel the improvement getting better and better. After 1st phase of adjustments, I went on a walk with the dog, and I was feeling great! It was 4 hours long and I was doing so amazing it was unreal. My neck pain, breathlessness and headaches – gone. My sleep has improved, and my energy levels are up too. I didn’t realise how much I was sleeping away in exhaustion. Now, I am going for adjustments twice a month just to maintain my condition. Staff is helpful, the doctors are amazing. It’s a proper local gem! Highly recommend!!”

“Healing hands chiropractor provide a professional service, They are really friendly and knowledgeable, My mobility has improved so much along with my posture since coming to them, I had a dowagers hump due to poor posture this has now improved so much it’s hardly noticeable, When I first came I could not turn my neck very far to either left or right side, this has also improved, I was given appropriate exercises to do to help with my issues and this has helped so much I am more flexible and I am sleeping better, my headaches have almost gone and I suffered daily with them. They do not pressure you to book more sessions and advise accordingly, they take scans so you can see before and after results, as they are adjustment sessions you can fit them in easily into a busy schedule. I have had to cancel at last minute at times and they did not penalise me for cancelling last minute and they are flexible around my time. I continue to attend although every few weeks for maintenance, I have been treated by Dr Chintan and I would highly recommend him if you are looking for an excellent chiropractor.”
